What are you having trouble with?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Cannot upload any data

    I commented on another thread, but just found the bit in the guide about making a new one.

    I am unable to upload any data. I have tried my own data and the sample data. When I try to upload a CSV I get an error. When I upload the sample data files, I get no errors, but no data appears in my Data tab.

    I am running Windows 7, and have tried the upload with Firefox 18, Internet Explorer 9 and Chrome 24.

    Sorry to not respond on this sooner. There was a intermittent bug that cropped up which should now be resolved. Please comment here further if you are still having problems.

  2. Field labels crowd field values in Chrome but not Firefox.

    When using Chrome I noticed that field labels inconsistently crowd field values in a list view: sometimes the field labels run right up against the value and sometimes they don't. (Windows OS + Chrome 20.0.1132.57 m) In Firefox, however, there always seems to be plenty of space between field labels and field values. (Windows XP Professional + Firefox 4.0.1)

    Conversely, facets are nicely horizontally spaced in a one-column view in Chrome, but facets horizontally crowd one another in a one-column view in Firefox.

    Simple styling bug?

  3. Augmenting dates before the Common Era

    I'd like to make a timeline with a set of data that includes BCE dates. I know ISO 8601 allows for expanded year representation (±YYYY) with prior agreement, so I tried it out. No luck though. How should I format the fields so I can properly augment the data?

  4. Uploading data file

    I uploaded an xls file. I did not receive an error message, but the file does not appear in the data section of my account. How do I locate the data?

  5. Login to beta test

    Hello!

    I'd love to test drive some of the new features with our account, but I'm having trouble logging in to our account to try the beta test out.

    I am able to login while in the "normal" mode. The beta site login says that the account or password are incorrect.

    Anyone else had trouble?

  6. Unable to augment for lat/long data (reported by Cameron Kainerstorfer)

    Since I am missing latitude and longitude data, I tried to augment the missing field as the instructions advised. I added the city and state fields, specified a name for the new filed, and clicked on augment. Each time, I get a failure and the field is empty. The field type is marked as location, but one cannot toggle it to a different type, as one can with the others (which are marked as text). I even went back to the sample postcards .xls file provided in the "getting started" area of Viewshare, and this also did not work.

  7. add documentation about non-supported image URL formats

    Good documentation, but more details about what kinds of URL image files are not supported would be helpful. A colleague of mine was confused why some image URLs, which looked fine in a regular browser, did not appear when uploaded via Excel file to ViewShare. For example:

    1) A Google Books "image"
    http://books.google.com/ebooks/reader?id=mDALAAAAIAAJ&printsec=frontcover&output=reader&pg=GBS.PA222

    and

    2) A Wikimedia Commons page (wrapped around an image file)
    http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Continental_Hotel,_Philadelphia,_by_Cremer,_James,_1821-1893.jpg

    I explained the problem with the first one, and repointed the browser to the underlying image for the second one. But more documentation would have helped here.

    I imported csv file, but Chinese characters were made into lines. Any workaround?

When I click the Create button nothing happens. This worked last week with a smaller set of data. Is there a limit on the number of items or on the length of the list to be extracted?

  12. Map augmenting using latitude and longitude

    I receive the error below when trying to augment a map using latitude and longitude data. I've been using "location" for the type and format the data in a single spreadsheet cell separated with a comma (e.g. 38.216602,-85.761862). I have also tried multiple coordinates, including the sample (37.386,-122.084) in the user guide, but I still get the same results. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Error:
    "No geolocation possible for address (help)
    Input: 38.216602,-85.761862"

  13. Map location of US states

    When I upload a spreadsheet where one column is the name of a US State, the Map View misdirects certain locations.

    Washington -> locates to Washington DC rather than Washington State
    Montana -> locates to Montana, Bulgaria
    Florida -> locates to Florida, Uruguay
    Georgia -> locates to Georgia (the country)

  14. embed not working - nothing shows up

    When i try to embed my views, they do not show up [either in a simple page or in my html/php coded index in Omeka]. Any ideas?

  15. How to change default gallery view

    How to change default gallery view so that the "grouped as sorted" is unselected? When this is pre-selected images are displayed vertically instead of in a grid.

  16. Cannot pick map, scatterplot, timeline, or gallery in Build Views

    Having trouble with views - right now I can only pick pie chart, list, or table. My data has both geography and dates, so I am not sure why the other options are grayed out for me. Any ideas?

  17. map view not showing scroll bar in popup when there are 2 items

    A pin point says there are 2 images at that location, but only one link shows up in the popup. There is no scroll bar to see the second link. This happens when I embed - it works fine at the Viewshare site.

    Just a quick note on this. In a update a while back viewshare changed to let users change the default zoom level. So you can now configure that in the settings for each map view. Thanks for the suggestion!

  19. Table view bleeds outside the right side of the window. I am unable to see all the data.

    I made a Table View of my data. However, the data goes off the right side of the window. Is there a limit to the number of columns you can display?

  20. the map manipulation icons render over the map point popup

    when the two overlap hiding text on the item description. This happens in all major browsers. I have been unable to fix it with CSS modifications in embedded views. It seems to be a z-index problem but not sure. It should be fixed. It is a detail that greatly detracts from an otherwise very nice product.
