Allow setting colors for categories
For the maps and timeline views, it will help to have manual control over the different colors that display.

Add locations that are polygons, e.g., U.S. counties.
This would be useful for many of us with cultural heritage collections, since K-12 students often engage with state history by picking a county to study.

Display Items on a Heat Map
Displaying items as pins on a map is great, but in many cases we don't have that level of geographic specificity. It would be ideal if one could create heat maps of items based on common geographic boundaries. For example, countries in the world, or states in the United States. I'm not entirely sure how one would go about connecting the text in a data field with the places in a heat map but I can imagine a few different ways of doing it.

Allow users to set the center of a map as well as a map's zoom
On a recent map view I created, I found that the zoom and center icons obscured some of the pins on my map at my ideal zoom. I'd like to select the map center as well as the default zoom level.

Add more charts
It would be great to be able to manipulate data in a range of other kinds of charts. The Pie charts are nice, but I could imagine stacked bar charts, or tree maps being useful. I could imagine things like the data driven document visualizations http://mbostock.github.com/d3/ or the JavaScript Info Visualization toolkit http://thejit.org/demos/ being great potential sets of charts.

Have timelines start at earliest date
I couldn't figure out how, and saw no examples from others that started at the earliest date. I figure there is a way, given that "Start Date" and "End Date" are in the Timeline widget. Hopefully I'm missing something obvious.

Help users map street addresses
The current system provides longitude and latitude coordinates for cities, but some collections need more specific locations like street addresses. If it can't be incorporated into ViewShare, it would be helpful if there were links to documentation that explains how to do it before uploading.

Separate Temporal and Spatial Coverage
I would like to use the temporal coverage field to create a timeline of my collections and would also like to use the spatial coverage field to create a map. Since both of these are listed under the coverage field, I can only map the data to either text or a location so I am unable to cover both areas at the same time.

allow readable pie charts
Occasionally the descriptions of various pie chart segments are so small the text is unreadable. This happens often when there are many segments on one chart of there is a long description on the segment.

provide a template for uploading spreadsheets from a computer.
Every time I try to upload an excel file with collection data I get an error message. I have tried editing the file as the troubleshooting section says, but without some type of template for how it should look I am not sure how to fix it.

Tag cloud properties
Allow for multiple properties to be included in tag clouds. For example, I would like to create a tag cloud of keywords. However, when my entries have multiple keywords, they appear as the one entry. If I could select multiple properties, then I could separate my keywords into individual columns in my excel spreadsheet, select each property when creating a tag cloud, and then all my keywords would be included.

allow import of METS-ALTO XML files, and perhaps simple .txt files.
My goal for using Viewshare is to download all of the OCR text from Chronicling America, and to actually use the API to successfully download the data and import it into a search tool.
If Viewshare and Chronicling America could partner their efforts, I believe we could make the use of OCR data more available to our users.

enable the option to hide property names in views
For example, a list may display the property names and content:
Creator: Jane Doe
Date: 1955
Materials: Rosewood
Object: Chair
but user would like to see an option to hide the property identifier so the view appears like this:
Jane Doe
1955
Rosewood

allow for a pop-up image window to include associated metadata
In the gallery view, when a user clicks on an image because they want more details about it, enable an option to show all or most of the metadata associated with the image to come up nicely formatted in the resulting pop-up window.

Make it obvious that you can click on the display headings to see different views.
While I was looking at the "Cason Monk-Metcalf: Exploratory Data Vis", I wasn't aware that the display headings could be clicked on. Maybe the font or headings could be changed in a way to make it clear to new visitors how to see different data views.

Add navigational buttons to the bottom of the page.
It would make it easier to not have to keep scrolling back to the top of the page.

lengthen the list of sets when importing from OAI
When importing sets from an OAI provider, the drop down list only shows the first 100 sets, even if there are more than 100. Because of this, I am unable to import some of my sets onto Viewshare.

Implement more date formats.
It would be nice if you could accommodate all the various formats possible with the W3C Date Time Format profile of ISO 8601. I have metadata, for example, that uses YYYY-MM and YYYY-MM-DD, and I can't get that to display on the timeline, although it was transformed into full date/time in another format (without my choosing that "enhancement"). I would actually prefer not to have that enhancement, since it ends up showing "12:00 AM" by default as part of the date/time.

Support email login
It would be helpful if you supported using a primary email address to log in rather than username. This would save folks from having to remember another username!
